Davies is represented within the present by “Landscape Management,” a 2020 work that combines wood constructions, slices of artificial turf, and reduce-up images of the artificial turf printed on promoting banners. New York-based mostly Kyle Meyer, a native of Ashland, Ohio, grew up in a conservative farming community and later lived in Swaziland, Africa, which criminalizes homosexuality. Meyer is represented within the show by a pair of photographic portraits of gay Swazi males whose pictures are woven with strips of cloth into complicated textile patterns. The resulting works elevate the humanity and dignity of Meyer’s subjects whereas concealing their id to protect their safety. As Leah Ollman put it in a 2017 piece in ARTnews journal on the type of tendencies explored at Transformer Station, the objective right now is that of “rematerializing” photography.
